Several different handle materials are available. Each material has its own characteristics. We select the highest quality handle materials to provide you with a superior and long lasting knife.

 

Dymondwood

This handle material comes standard with any Horsewright knife you order at no extra charge. Dymondwood is American hardwood dyed, laminated and impregnated with resin. This results in a beautiful, stable and durable handle material that takes an excellent polish. Available in several diffferent colors and patterns. Below are shown samples of Dymondwood handles in Oak, Rio Grande Applewood, Cocobolo, Camo, and Liberty patterns.

Black Water Buffalo Horn

This beautiful material comes from India. It makes an excellent and durable handle material. Sometimes there may be a few streaks of white that enhances the uniqueness of each individual handle. This material takes an excellent polish and maintains a grip even when wet. Add $8.00 to Base Price of any Horsewright knife.

 

 

 

Mammoth Ivory

A premium handle material, Mammoth Ivory is 10-40,000 years old. Each piece is unique, with variations in texture and color. Add $100-120.00 to Base Price of any Horsewright knife.

 

 

Honey Horn

A very rare and highly sought after Water Buffalo Horn that comes from Asia. The dark brown background is highlighted with honey colored streaks in various patterns. This material can vary from subtle to dynamic in it's coloration. This material makes an absolutely stunning handle of the utmost quality. Add $10.00 to Base Price of any Horsewright knife.

  

 

 

Jigged Bone

A very traditional handle material, particularly in western knives. This bone has been dyed in various colors and has been jigged to provide a solid grip. Available in Black, Brown, Red, Amber, Green, Honey, Yellow and Blue. Add $18.00 to Base Price of any Horsewright knife.

Himalayan Sheep Horn

From Tibet, a very rugged and practical handle material. Probably the most durable of all natural materials.  Even when wet, this material maintains a firm grip. Works best on the smaller knives such as the Vaquero, Buckaroo and Bandito. Add $20-35.00 depending on knife size.

  

 

 

Merino Sheep Horn

This handle material has a magnificent texture. It is lighter in color than the Himalayan Sheep Horn. The Merino Sheep Horn is also a very durable handle material. Works best with the Bronco, Rodeo, El Toro  and Buckaroo. Add $30.00 to the base price of these knives.

  

 

 

American Walnut

Our Walnut was cut from a tree in Ithaca, New York in 1959. Stored inside since, this wood has become very stable and makes an excellent knife handle. Each Walnut handle is sealed and filled then finished with eight to ten coats of Tru Oil. The handle then receives several coats of wax to protect it. Add $5.00 to Base Price of any Horsewright knife.

   

 

 

Sambar Stag

An embargo since the early 1970s prevented the importation of Sambar Stag.  Recently that embargo has been lifted by the Indian Government.  Sambar Stag is the premium antler material, all others were substitutions.  Noted for its hardness, density and it's superior color, Sambar Stag has been the premium handle material throughout the ages. This handle material comes from sheds, not hunted animals. Add $20-40.00 depending on knife size.

  

 

 

Rosewood

An exotic wood from many locals from Asia and Central and South America. Hard, dense and takes an excellent polish. Rosewood exhibits an interesting and varied grain pattern and color. Add $15.00 to base price of any knife.

 

 

 

Olivewood

 An exotic wood from the Mediterranean and Africa. A beautiful tan color, with a darker brown grain. The grain pattern is very varied and unpredictable. Add $15.00 to base price of any knife.
